Trip to Ratnagiri

ROLE Illustrator, Printmaker
YEAR Jan 2022
SCOPE Illustration, Printmaking
Illustrating a childhood memory of a trip to Ratnagiri in an experimental manner. I tried to capture the multiple stories from the trip in a single image while maintaining a dynamic composition and legibility of each component of the illustration.

The finalised sketch; Colour planning done digitally and manually; MDF block; Printing table; Planning colours with ink
I started the illustration with a sketch of the main characters and the primary memory of holding dead fishes on the beach. Then, taking the idea of an illustration within an illustration, I layered elements bring visuals from the whole journey together into a frame. The swoosh of mangoes and shells are the Arabain Sea winds that add movement to the otherwise static bubbles on the left.
