SRIB Prism Project

Motion design for widgets

A final semester design project, this work revolves around making unpleasant everyday experiences better by improving communication and fostering positive feelings through motion graphics. This was a 3-month project executed by a team of 7 people. We studied screen time widgets and how the information display can be made better. The concept animations are underway. The project is under NDA.

Team members: Rishita Bhagel, Ritika Verma, Arjun Sanu, Akash Saji, Shabeer T, Sahil Betigere

ROLE User research apprenticeship, Animator

YEAR Sep 2023 - Nov 2023

SCOPE Primary and Secondary research, Design and layout, Motion graphics

THE BRIEF

As the above diagram shows, the brief was focused on the use of motion to create everyday phone interactions that are designed to delight. During our immersion stage, we looked at problems that could be solved regardless of motion intervention to understand the 'big picture' of everyday frustrating experiences.

INSIGHT

One major insight that we converged on was that discovery, personalisation, and memories are the factors that give users pleasant long-term experiences. Users ended up despising their devices for long screen time hours even thought it was the apps that were the root cause of excessive screen-time.

THE SOLUTION

Our solution revolved around creating engaging widgets for the Digital Wellbeing App that made screen-time data palatable and less stress-inducing.
