ROLE Intern, Printmaker

SCOPE Apprenticeship, Printmaking, Illustration, Secondary research
These posters were my foray into screen-printing at a 2-week internship at Studio Tints and Prints. They were made with the theme of menstruation, alongside a book design project. This project gained significance when it was found that until 2023 period products were never tested using real blood. My admiration for Corita Kent was the driving factor behind this whole project.

Process for 'Which one's right for me'; Sketches and iterations; Negatives; Screens; Me at work
For 'Which one is right for me' there were man early iterations that indicated a hierarchy between the products. This, with feedback from the studio mentors, was eliminated and more contrast in the elements was added. A colour scheme around red was decided to break the stigma against menstrual blood and the blues were added to balance the intensity of used straight from the ink can.

Process for 'You have options'; Sketches; Negatives; Learning errors; Getting feedback from Prachi; Close-up of prints
For 'You have options' I was inspire by the work of Corita Kent. The big, bold letters and colours she used to make screen printed posters akin to campaign slogans and propaganda as striking beyond words. This was a fairly simple and short poster, as I was just testing waters for screen-printing.
