A few of the daily prompt works
An article a day!
News for everyone with a little bit of me
ROLE -
YEAR Oct 2020
SCOPE -
In 2020, the a couple of students hosted their own version of Inktober;
they named it Sankalpam.
My response to this month-long challenge was picking a news article based on a daily prompt word and making it the day's highlight. I wanted to show that there is news for every kind of reader and for every kind of subject seeker. News doesn't have to be boring; if presented differently, it can be interesting.

The Sankalpam prompt list
PROCESS
Based on the prompt, I scanned the newspapers and news websites to look for suitable interesting articles. I would read a lot of articles before finding one that was related to the prompt word. What is surprising is that I have always found an article, no matter what the word, despite the presence of large amounts of news about the ongoing pandemic. I would then doodle around the article trying to illustrate a summative expression and comment. This made the articles more visual and fun. Just bringing an article out of the newspaper layout—imagine a grid of text and images—made a lot of difference to the way one would read it.
BACKGROUND
Since childhood, I have been an avid reader of newspapers. Although that habit was affected by high school studies and hostel life (and a phase of losing optimism in the news content and its presentation), I have time and again attempted to stay in touch with current affairs. This project also diverted attention from the everyday agony of death rates, Covid-tests and the hope for cures and vaccines.
This project shows my interest in content and its presentation, be it interaction and representation of information, publication design or writing for an audience.
